Case Combine Harvester
In this project, the central question revolves around innovating combine harvester design to create a game changer. Traditionally, the side panels of combine harvesters have been rather flat. Due to their shallow nature, there hasn't been much room for intricate shaping beyond their basic function of providing coverage. The engineering constraints further limited design possibilities, with an initial depth envelope of 80mm, reduced to 40mm in certain areas, presenting a significant challenge in terms of creating visually engaging features.
However, these constraints also provided an opportunity to explore uncharted territory. This was seen as a chance to reimagine design principles by integrating the concept of 'function in disguise.' Contrary to popular belief, form follows function. Drawing inspiration from motorcycles and automotive experience, the aim was to transform the combine harvester into a dynamic, high-performance machine while still embodying the essence of the brand heritage and customer expectations.
Each section of the harvester underwent meticulous examination to extract optimal sculptural and spatial depth from the panels. Taking cues from motorcycle fairings, sectional depth and innovative design shapes were introduced, seamlessly blending form and function. The result: a breakthrough in combine styling and a game changer.
